Blogging 101

Blogging 101 is mostly about the blogging vocabulary. To understand blogs, you need to know the terms blog, platform, domain, and web host. Once you have mastered these key elements of  blogging, you can enter any conversation about   blogging with confidence. After you know what exactly a blog is, you will be on your way to passing the final exam of blogging 101.

Blog is short for weblog, which simply means a series of online posts presented in reverse chronological order. That’s all! Most blogs are text, but there are also photo blogs and video blogs. The rest of blogging 101 has to do with the technical side of things. If you are setting up a blog, you will need a platform, a web host, and a domain. A blogging platform is a computer software program that allows you to write posts and to update your blog. Your platform is also what you use to design the look of your blog, from color scheme to font size. The web host is sort of like the virtual file
cabinet where your blog is stored. Your computer communicates with the host when you upload or edit a post. The domain is the online address of your blog, and usually ends in ‘dot com’. Now that you know what a blog is, what a platform is, and what domains and hosts are, congratulate yourself!
You have passed blogging 101.

A Great Idea For a Blogging Web Site is No Longer Enough

Because there are so many blogs and web sites about blogs on the internet, it can be tough to distinguish your blogging web site from all of the others. Whether you are starting up a new web site aimed at bloggers or whether you are looking to make your existing blogging site more distinctive, the key to building and maintaining a site that will capture the interest and attention of the blogging community is finding your niche. If you can fill a unique need in a way that no
other web site does, you’ll be able to build a lasting readership among web surfers. Once you have discovered a niche, you will still have a lot to do, but finding your place in the blogosphere is the place to begin.

Every great blogging web site starts with a great idea, and you can’t build a successful site that will last without one. There are many great sites aimed at today’s bloggers, and competition for the attention of this growing demographic is fierce. To make your blogging web site stand out from the pack, you will need to offer something that no other site is currently offering, or you will need to do the same thing that an already popular site does but in a more impressive or
valuable way.

One way to discover an ideal model for your blogging web site is to look at the sites that have successfully captured a blogging audience already to determine if you can appropriate some of their strategies to help realize your vision. Of course, you will also need to add a unique flair to your project in order to stand apart from your competition. Many people agree that the web sites that do the best in today’s market are the sites that have the most personality. The fiercely individual surfers who are bloggers are a demographic that responds especially strongly to personality, so consider how you can give your site a unique and attractive feeling by lending your own voice and sensibility to
your site’s design and content.

Once you have a great idea for your site, have pinpointed a special niche that you are well equipped to fill, and have infused the site with personality, the next step is figuring out how to get the word out to bloggers. In the long run, a great idea just isn’t enough to propel your blogging web site to success. You will need to draft a smart and realistic marketing plan in order to draw readers to your site. Once you hook a blogger, your great content will keep them coming back, but it is vital to get that first glance or your site won’t have a chance to shine.

The Power of Words

Words alone may seem insignificant or useless. However, if you put words into action, then you have a powerhouse. It may seem that words are worthless if not for action. There’s no doubt action is important; but without words, action is not possible also. Words are the sources of actions and they originate from the mind.

How do you pack power in words such as “You can do it,” “Believe in yourself,” or “Keep on?” Have you ever been to a basketball game? The audience shows their support to their home team by shouting “Defense!” when their opponents have the ball. Their repeated chant of “defense” is aimed to inspire the home team. The word targets each of the hometown players on the hard court to go for the win.

The same thing is true when you repeatedly chant positive and inspiring words like “I can do it,” “I know I can,” “Just hang on,” or “Don’t give up.” Talk to yourself. Be persistent to yourself. Do this several times a day or every time you encounter difficulties in your life.

When you repeatedly say inspiring words to yourself, you are in essence building the foundation of positive thoughts into your mind so that there is no room left for negative thinking. When positive thoughts are rooted or anchored in your mind, words relevant to these thoughts will be your driving force to lead you to a successful life. Your actions will be dependent on the words implanted in your thoughts. For as long as you persevere in keeping these positive words into your thoughts and keep recalling them faithfully, there’s no way you will turn back to your negative habits.

Work On That Subtle Universal Language!

The universal language is none other than the language of the human body. It’s the best way of getting your message across, without needing to express yourself in words.

Intuition works because we respond to body language. Sometimes, you just can’t explain why don’t trust someone, or you’re sure a friend is up to something. This is because you figure things out according to the signals given out from the other person’s body language.

I’ll go into detail as we move along:

Start with your face. How can you tell, by simply looking, that someone just had a tooth taken out? How do you know if a person is on cloud nine? How do you when someone is having a bad dream? You see it, right? It’s the look on that person’s face. So, how do you make sure you project your best? It’s simple. Just smile. It gives an aura of trust.

Let’s go over to your eyes. Looking intently at someone could mean you’re attracted to or familiar with that person. Looking down or barely making eye contact could mean you’re shy, or you’re just outright not interested. The best use of your eyes is seen when you look at someone straight in the eye because it always goes to show you mean what you say.

Then there’s the touch. Your hands play a very important role in comforting other people, or doing the exact opposite. For example, a warm pat on the back always gives the feeling of deep concern; or it could mean that someone is congratulating you for a job well done. Putting your arm around someone’s shoulder is just as good as saying, “I’m here to cheer you up”.

As much as your hands could show intimacy, it could also show the opposite. For instance, shoving a person away indicates annoyance or anger. Don’t make too much hand gestures because it just shows that you feel tensed or insecure.

That leaves me to my last point – your posture. It’s the way you move, stand or behave in different situations, and with different people. Why do you need to keep your posture upright, hold your head high, and avoid slouching? How do you carry yourself in public? Try to picture this: You are in a seminar and you find yourself leaning back against the chair. Some might have the interpretation that you find the talk boring and not worth your time.

How about when you’re in front of a group of seemingly arrogant people? You puff up and keep some distance. When you lean in, it means you’re interested. When you’re ashamed, you suddenly develop stoop shoulders. Your posture shows your state of mind, if you’re confident or not. So when you want to keep your poise and ace that job, all you have to do is show them that you’re sure of yourself. If you’re nervous and anxious, keep it to yourself. Be confident. Relax. Don’t stoop.

We understand people from different countries through hand gestures and facial expressions. Understanding other tongues doesn’t necessarily require the ability to speak.

Silence is a way of speaking through your body language. It sometimes explains why you seem to be saying so much more when you’re simply “speechless.”

How to Attain and Retain Peace of Mind

“Do not disturb.” This sign is often times seen on doorknobs of hotel rooms. Obviously, the person on the other side of the door wants some peace and quiet. This kind of peace is superficial, one that is obvious and literal.

There’s another kind of peace most people aspire for. It’s peace of mind. Some people have peace of mind only when they are asleep. Perhaps this is possible only when they are physically tired or exhausted, and the urge to sleep is stronger than the need to have peace of mind.

However, having a disturbed mind will keep you awake night after night. Your entire well-being will be adversely affected. Your physical health will deteriorate. The longer this persists, the more extensive the damages will become. Don’t wait until the damage becomes irreversible.

Find the cause of your troubled mind. Trouble lies in the mind. Ask yourself what is disturbing you. Part of it is probably made up of fear, self-pity, insecurity, and failures, to name a few. All of these are products of negative thinking that pollutes the mind unnecessarily. Face your troubles with courage by casting out the negative feelings of fear and insecurity. Empty your mind of all these negative habits. Don’t leave your mind empty for long to prevent it from leaning back to the negative side.

Keep on casting out all negative thoughts by emptying them from your mind, and refill with positive and inspiring thoughts. Do this process as often as necessary – every time you think you need to. By repeating this process, you are practicing good habits aimed at keeping your mind free of negative thoughts and full of positive vibrations to achieve peace of mind. Ultimately, this habit will become part of your daily activities until you get used to it. Once you do, you will find everything you do to be positive based in an effortless manner.

You may ask, “Just how do you unload negative thoughts and load in positive ones?” One of the best ways to do this is by visualization. Picture peaceful scenes in your mind. For instance, you can initially picture in your mind a rainforest being battered by stormy weather. Branches of trees are vigorously swinging in all directions. Everything seems to be chaotic, just like a troubled mind. But storms don’t last. They move on. When they leave, sunshine or good weather comes in.

A troubled mind is like a storm in your mind. Once the problem is gone, you will have peace of mind. Try to build a strong foundation of positive attitudes so that when another storm hits your mind, you’re prepared to face it. This is similar to practicing positive attitudes. Going back to the rainforest on a beautiful weather, doesn’t it look and feel peaceful? This is how your state of mind should be – peaceful so that it can be harnessed to obtain an enjoyable life.

There are many other ways to generate a peaceful mind. Think of words that suggest a calm mind – words like tranquil (a tranquil sea), serene, harmony, and stillness. Read poems, phrases, and excerpts that suggest a peaceful mind. You can also join group talks where the discussion is centered on how to achieve a mind harmonious with peace, love, and happiness. If you prefer to be on your own, moments of silence can make you obtain peace of mind. The library is a suitable place to be in. Pick up a book that suggests peace of mind and you may be able to find other means to obtain your objective.
